Sec 2F - Shurbs Galore
Posted by: Victoria School, at: 11:40:00 PM

Class 2F, led by Mr. Donald Leo & Mr. Chew Hwa Soon, initially planned to embark on a Guinness World Record along with several other classes from the various levels, but due to unforeseen circumstances and the lack of pragmatism of such a feat, it was abandoned at the last minute.
Yet, despite their lack of time, they managed to come up with an extremely creative challenge - to plant the VS crest just outside the D&T workshop at the car park using real live shrubs. Perfectly coinciding with Live Earth to reduce carbon emissions in the earth. They bought all they needed (plants, pots & soil etc.) through the use of their class fund, therefore everyone contributed equally in terms of money. They organized their class into 2 shifts as it would be inefficient and impractical for everyone to be doing something due to the limited space available at their venue.
A problem they faced was the lack of soil but they managed to overcome this by digging deeper into the soil. A certain pupil from 2F when interviewed about how he felt about his class’s challenge said that it was “very fun but tiring”. Indeed, toiling in the morning sun all the way through the hot and humid afternoon is no mean feat. We applaud these Victorians for their ruggedness and perseverance.

Sec 2D- Are toilets too boring??? LOOK HERE!!!
Posted by: Victoria School, at: 11:21:00 PM

An interesting challenge of the 2007 class of 2D, the painting of four toilet doors on the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th floor of the boys toilet. Upon approaching, we could see that the khaki panters were getting down and dirty while painting the toilet doors. They smelled strongly of Nippon paint and their clothes were stained with different colours of paint. They painted the doors of each floor with different colours as the background.
When interviewed, a member of 2D said that this challenge was for a meaningful cause. He stated that Victorians who venture to the toilet daily would then recognise the hard work of their class. He also said that painting the door was not as easy as it looked as they faced difficulties such as accidentally dirtying the door and having to repaint it over again. Currently they have finished painting the background of the four toilet doors and are left with the daunting task of decorating the doors.

Sec 2G - Familiar Faces???
Posted by: Victoria School, at: 11:10:00 PM

The challenge of class 2G was to compile faces from people holding leadership positions in VS and make a book in memory of the leaders of Victoria School. The class also came up with an adventurous idea to make a movie slide of the photos they had taken to be shown on speech day. Up till now, they have compiled most of the faces and are on the verge of completing their challenge in the coming hours with the slight exception of overcoming difficulties such as trying to locate the different leaders and trying to get comments out of them. The bustling activities going around the school did not help them, yet they are still determined to complete the challenge they set themselves in the coming hours. This exemplifies the true meaning of the Victorian Spirit.

Sec 2E - Crest shining bright
Posted by: Victoria School, at: 10:15:00 PM

An interesting proposal to paint the VS logo at the foyer was rejected at the last minute but that did not deter class 2E. Instead within such a short space of time they managed to alter the dimensions of the portrait to a smaller size to fit it in the art room level 5. The scale of the potrait which was planned to be painted at the foyer was much bigger but they were determined to do the challenge and managed to complete their painting in the art room in the space of 12 hours. That was no mean feat for the class as they managed to alter their plans which they had prepared months in advance and complete it all in 12 hours. This is certainly a true lesson to be learnt by all Victorians. Be flexible and adaptable to changes, and never give up. Keep it up guys!

Sec 2C - Movers and sharkers
Posted by: Victoria School, at: 9:30:00 PM

After their proposal of visiting past Victoria School sites like Geylang Barhu, Jalan Besar and Kampong Glam with photo evidence was rejected, they decided to use furniture such as tables and chairs to form the school song first with letters then with words. Their work was indeed hard. The chairs and tables were rigid and could not change the form of them. That was thier challenge. Real teamwork and vision was required to form the letters. And many were unwilling to be slaves of instructions especially when it is given to them by a classmate, someone they see as an equal. However, 2C managed to put aside that and various differences and help to strive to complete their class project.

Fighting Figurines

Life like???
Figurines
Hard at work!
After 7 odd hours, 2H were already 800-900 figurines to their aim of 1310. Though they are getting their hands dirty, they seem to enjoy it and were so engrossed that they did not even notice our small group of interviewers strolling into their work area and stealing 10 of their figurines. Joking.
Upon questioning, one of the class members admitted that it was an uphill task that would require a lot of hard work and sweat due to the massive number of figurines to make.
In every figurine, the facial features were not every well elaborated as their work tool was not precise enough; their work efficiency slowly improved after every figurine they made and each was made with Victorian features. Handsome. Deciding to work through the night, they are selling their masterpieces at prices ranging from $0.20 to $1.50 depending on the facial elaboration. The hotter, the pricier.

The cake party
Posted by: Victoria School, at: 6:17:00 PM
Looks Yummy???
Hardworking people
Mid-way through the project, we stepped, once again, into the Home Economics kitchen. The aroma of freshly baked cakes wafted into our nostrils. They still had around 50 cakes more to go and they anticipate they will end at 11 tonight.
They faced many difficulties through their challenge for 8 hours, such as time constraints as they could not find enough time to meet the massive orders they are getting. Their cakes also require many resources and they discovered that their baking base was not sufficient. Amidst baking their 131 cakes, they have been taking turns to promote their product around the school. The kitchen is messy and chaotic, but the students claim it is all in the name of the Victorian Challenge. We believe them. $10 for a freshly-baked, warm, tasty cake, in the name of charity, is definitely a good bargain. Support a good cause! For the magnificent cakes, visit Victoria School Level 3 Home Economics kitchen.

Secondary 2A - Chalk Mural!
Posted by: Victoria School, at: 5:03:00 PM
In a bid to decorate the rather green and ugly spot beside the Victoria School eco-pond, 2A decided to create a chalk mural to spice up the place in red, yellow and black – classic Victorian colours. We hope it wouldn’t be washed away in a second by rain.

Sec 2H - 1310 CLAY FIGURINES?!
Posted by: Victoria School, at: 2:11:00 PM
Class 2H, the most difficult class for us to track down. Their challenge venue was changed, however, we can safely say that their challenge was clay-solid. It was an original and innovative idea of creating 1310 clay figurines to be sold.
When we entered the room, the whole place was in a mess, with clay stains all over the place. But make no mistake, the students were clear in their objectives. Everyone was putting their heart and soul into their challenge, creating figurines of different shapes, sizes and designs. However, the whole class wasn't present. The moniter was absent for school, while the rest... we'll leave it at that.
Their challenge was by far one of the toughest we've came across and by 1pm, only an estimated 300 out of 1310 figurines were completed. The oven itself could only hold so many figurines at a time. Undaunted, spirits high, a few students sung a couple of songs in unison. Others were even having their share of fun by playing with the clay. Besides, isn't having fun part of the Victorian Challenge?
When asked if there was a possibility of working through the night, a student replied "Ah, no problem. 15 hours only!" Perserverance well defined, Victorians!

Sec 2B - Painting of CORE VALUES along corridors!
Posted by: Victoria School, at: 12:35:00 PM
The Class of 2B has taken a on a rather common challenge, that is to improve the aesthetics of the school but with a twist. Instead of just sprucing up the uniform tan-coloured corridors outside classrooms with shiny new coats of paint, they have decided to paint the core aspects of what constitutes a Victorian - our Core Values.
The Victorian Spirit was clearly shown in both teacher and students as they were stencilling their templates onto the walls. It was quite a rare sight, a teacher removing her heels and getting down and dirty with her boys. When asked how they felt about the challenge, an enthusiastic "We can't wait to start painting." was given without hesitation.

However, man proposes, heaven disposes. 2B too had their fair share of difficulties. One of the stencils had a grammatical error and was too short to be rectified. A new stencil was out of the question as they had no materials left to make a new one. It was also too time consuming. When asked how long it took to produce the stencils, the boys looked at each other and gave a weary reply "About 4 hours". Teamwork definitely shone true when the whole class stayed back the day before the challenge to complete the stencils. Despite facing a problem at such an early stage, the boys quickly came up with a solution. They reused the alphabets of the stencils by cutting them out to make the correction. Lightning quick wits - a given where Victorians are concerned. (: They took almost an hour just to stencil the Core Values onto the walls. It was only meant to be a rough guide, and would have to be further editted for precisions sake. That and they have to cover 3 levels of the school. Keep on truckin' 2B! We'll be rooting for you!.JPG)
